Rose D. Ferreira is an Astronomer, Science Communicator, and activist born and raised in the Caribbean Island of Dominican Republic. After breaking from poverty and fighting for rights to her education. She moved to the US as a teenager where she lived on the streets of New York City, overcame homelessness, and taught herself English at the age of 17, in order to work and put herself through college so she could follow her passion for Space and Exploration.

Rose engages in STEM outreach both in English and Spanish appearing on platforms like Astronomia Magazine, Symmetry Magazine, SyFyWire, Quartz, Gizmodo, Geo Latinas, and has given live talks for WHOI, Caveat NYC, “Exploring by the Seat of your Pants”, “Ask A Spaceman” live by Science Friday, Mujer/Ciencia/Arte, and is currently a candidate for Project PoSSUM’s Scientist-Astronaut Program.

When she’s not chasing space or encouraging others to look up, she likes to focus her attention on education access and equity, as well as activism for survivors of domestic, sexual abuse, and homelessness.

She’s interested in Space Policy, plans to pursue a PhD in Space Studies and hopes to inspire others who come from backgrounds like her own, to challenge the conventional ideas of who gets to succeed.
