Rebekah (BEKAH) Godwin
(she/her)
Brooke Owens Fellow, Class of 2020
University of Dubuque, Flight Operations & Aviation Management, ‘20
Host Institution: Mojave Air and Space Port
Mentor: Zack Krevor
Growing up around the aviation industry, Bekah spent many days being picked up after school and getting on a plane to anywhere for a short weekend adventure. The bustling airports always seemed a bit like home. Though she had many passions growing up, Bekah always returned to her dream of becoming a pilot. During her first flight lesson, she was certain she had found the place she was meant to be.
Along with aviation and the aerospace industry, a passion for service has always been a part of Bekah. Something she finds so wonderful about flying is that it brings people closer together in a way they never could be before. Beginning as a young teenager, she participated in yearly service trips to countries like Mexico and Cuba, where she holds close ties, working to serve others. Over the years, groups from her church and university helped in building three different churches and bringing basic necessities to those in need.
Bekah graduated from the University of Dubuque in May of 2020 with a Bachelor of Science. She double majored in Flight Operations & Aviation Management and obtained a minor in Spanish. In her time at the University of Dubuque, she has participated in organizations such as the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and Women in Aviation (WAI). As former president of the WAI chapter at the university, Bekah’s favorite thing to do is participate yearly in the annual Girls in Aviation Day where she arranged air traffic control tower tours, flight simulator sessions, and for the airport rescue firefighters to come and talk about their career and demonstrate their equipment. Her hope is to engage and inspire the next generation of females in aviation.
Bekah interned the summer of 2020 at the Mojave Air and Space Port as a Brooke Owens Fellow. She is currently a Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (CFI-I) working full time at the University of Dubuque. She hopes to obtain her ATP certificate and continue to grow in Aviation. She hopes to inspire other womyn in aerospace through her teaching as well as her mentoring with the fellowship.
