Ellen Wang is a Junior majoring in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech. Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, she has always been fascinated by space exploration ever since she was little. In her career, she hopes to combine her passion for sustainability and engineering to continue expanding humanity's understanding of the universe.

At Georgia Tech, Ellen conducts research in the Space Systems Design Laboratory, contributing on the structures team for the GPDM (Green Propellant Dual-Mode) NASA STMD Project. She is working to design the CubeSat bus to be used for GPDM’s demonstration mission, which will pave the way for more sustainable propulsive capabilities onboard future small spacecraft. Working in the lab has truly deepened Ellen’s love and passion for aerospace engineering and space vehicles.

Ellen is also a member of the Yellow Jacket Space Program, Georgia Tech’s liquid-propellant rocketry team. On the engine development and test team, she is working on designing, manufacturing, and building the engine test stand to test the team’s rocket engines to further the program’s goal of becoming the first collegiate team to launch a liquid-propelled rocket to the edge of space, the Karman Line.

In addition to engineering, as a Student Ambassador for the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, Ellen loves giving tours to prospective students and encouraging women and minorities to pursue careers in aerospace. Outside of school, Ellen is an avid artist, dancer, world traveler, vinyl record collector, and fantasy book enthusiast.

In 2023, Ellen interned at Pratt & Whitney, which was her first industry experience and fueled her interest in engines. In the spring of 2024, Ellen will be a Systems Engineering Intern at NASA Johnson Space Center, working on the Orion spacecraft which will fly on Artemis II. As a Brooke Owen’s Fellow, she’s thrilled to continue her industry experience this summer as a Propulsion Intern at Rocket Lab.
