UC Berkeley, Astrophysics, ‘20
Host Institution: Astranis
Mentor: Ashley Zauderer
Caroline is a senior studying Astrophysics at UC Berkeley. Born and raised in San Jose, California, Caroline developed her love of space through family camping trips throughout her childhood. She was inspired to go into the engineering field by her older sister Kelly, who is also an Aerospace Engineer.
Caroline gained internship experience by working summers 2017, 2018, and 2019 at Maxar Space Infrastructure (formerly SSL) in Palo Alto, CA. She worked in Software Engineering, Mechanical Systems Engineering, Mission Engineering & Operations, and Spacecraft Production Engineering. The summers Caroline worked at Maxar solidified her love of aerospace engineering and desire to pursue a career in the industry. Most recently, Caroline worked as an Undergraduate Student Instructor for the Intro to General Astronomy class at Cal, teaching 2 discussion sections of students from a variety of academic backgrounds.
Outside of her STEM classes Caroline enjoys learning German and spent a semester living and studying in Berlin, Germany last spring. Through this experience, she got to indulge her love for traveling and meeting new people from many different backgrounds.
Caroline is active in her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, and served on the executive committee in 2018. Caroline is also a member of the CalGreeks Alcohol Taskforce, a group of students in Greek life committed to promoting safe party practices and mutual accountability.
In her free time, Caroline enjoys snowboarding, solving crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy! with friends, and spending time with her family and their dog, Rudy.
As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Caroline is excited to be interning this summer for Astranis in San Francisco, CA.
