Vaibhavi Mahajan is a junior at Georgetown studying Science, Technology, and International Affairs with a minor in Russian and is pursuing a certificate in Australian and New Zealand Studies. A combination of her passions in government affairs and outer space, space policy has become her career goal. Always wanting to pursue something she was inherently curious about as a career, her love for space stems from watching Star Trek: The Next Generation every Sunday with her dad as a kid.

Vaibhavi was born and raised in Brandon, Mississippi but her family now lives in Arizona. She has been a dancer since she was 3 years old and has experience in mainly hip hop and jazz. At Georgetown, she has been involved in Georgetown Rangila, the country’s largest philanthropic dance showcase, as a choreographer where she teaches 30+ students a year who don’t have dance experience how to dance. Rangila annually donates money to a South Asian non-profit organization and notoriously sells out, and she is proud to contribute to this hallmark of Georgetown. She was also on Georgetown’s Bollywood competitive dance team, which competes across the country and performed for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Diwali party.

Outside of dance, Vaibhavi is involved in the Georgetown University Astronomical Society which advocates for the preservation of the Heyden Observatory, a national historic landmark, as well the Georgetown University Space Initiative’s policy team and a consulting club for DC nonprofits. In her spare time she loves reading and watching science fiction, taking yoga classes in the DC area, and spending time with her dog Comet.

Throughout college, she has pursued internships at NASA, the U.S. House of Representatives, and private sector companies which have honed her understanding of policy and regulatory frameworks from the perspective of both the government and industry. She is excited to learn even more at Lockheed Martin Space this summer, and is honored to be a part of the Brooke Owens Class of 2025.
