Karen Kuhlman graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Oregon State University. She traces her passion for aerospace back to a childhood telescope, pitch-black skies, and her supportive parents.
As a student, Karen served as a leader on the Design, Build, Fly! remote-controlled aircraft team, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the ChickTech organization for STEM outreach to women, in addition to serving as President of the OSU chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She worked with Airway Science for Kids and with the OSU School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, in addition to completing an internship for the Cornell University Design & Build CubeSat project.
As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Karen worked at Scaled Composites, where she helped design, build, and test a proof-of-concept subscale RC aircraft.
Currently, Karen works full-time for Scaled Composites.
