JANE GILLETTE
(Jayn Jill-et, she/her)

  • Brooke Owens Fellow, Class of 2020

  • The University of Alabama, B.S. Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, ‘20, MBA and M.S. Aerospace Engineering, ‘21

  • Host Institution: The Boeing Company

  • Mentor: Chris Stott

Jane got her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Alabama (roll tide!) and is currently working as an Advanced Programs Systems Engineer at United Launch Alliance. She developed a love of engineering through her passion for STEM throughout middle school and high school and found aerospace engineering to be the most fascinating career path.

As a sophomore at the University of Alabama, Jane was selected to lead the rocketry design team as Project Manager, a role she held throughout her senior year. She led a team to design a two-stage solid propellant rocket during her junior year and to begin the design of a methane-oxygen liquid engine during her senior year. Then she served as President of the entire organization! This experience taught her an abundance of technical skills, but the true benefit was in the growth of her leadership skills.

In her spare time, Jane loves to read anything from true crime to female empowerment to comedy to science fiction. She also loves hanging out with her two cats (Charles and Dot), checking out new hikes around Colorado, cooking, and taking care of her plants.

In addition to Alabama Rocketry Association, Jane spent her time in college as an ambassador for the College of Engineering and a member of the WOAA chapter. Jane interned at NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. during the summer of 2018 and at United Launch Alliance in Centennial, CO during the summer of 2019. She was also honored to be selected for Aviation Week/AIAA’s 20 Twenties of 2020. As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Jane worked as a Systems Test intern at The Boeing Company in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
