Catherine Blumhagen is a senior at American University studying Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government through the three-year Politics, Policy, and Law Scholars program. She has also begun coursework for a Master’s in Public Administration with an intended concentration in Science and Technology Policy.

She discovered a love for space policy when she attended a hearing on the decomission of the International Space Station during her first internship in the House of Representatives. After spending a semester interning with the Office of Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-08), she later interned with the Democratic staff of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

Catherine has a particular interest in the application of space science to solving environmental problems, having grown up exploring the mountains of rural Pennsylvania and fishing in the Potomac River with her father. She enjoys singing as a part of vocal ensembles and has had the privilege of performing for audiences across the world, from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, to the Matthias Church in Budapest, Hungary.

Catherine is excited to join the Commercial Space Federation as a 2025 Brooke Owens Fellow.
